Assisted searches

If you are
pressed for time, a little unsure how to go about searching for records, or not very comfortable using computers, why not book an assisted
search with one of the ScotlandsPeople staff?
If you book an assisted search a member of staff will sit with you for up to two hours helping you navigate your way through the records
and hopefully adding to your family tree.
They will be able to offer advice and make your search quicker and more comprehensive than if you had to do it yourself.
Please be aware that our records are only complete from 1855 onwards, the year when civil registration started in Scotland, and therefore
if we are asked to carry out searches prior to 1855 it may not be possible to find any results.
The cost of an assisted search is detailed in our
Charges page. This charge provides assistance by the Family History
Officer (up to a maximum period of two hours). The day search fee for your search room place must also be paid.
To book an assisted search simply phone the Centre on:
0131 314 4300.

You will be asked to provide some background family details to find out whether your family records will be available at the Centre.
Normally you will be asked to provide details of two people with a recorded event (Birth, Marriage, Death) within Scotland since 1855.
Assisted searches will take place in one of the search rooms.
When your session is over you are free to stay at your seat and continue your search alone but hopefully with some advice and hints fresh in your mind.

Assisted Search service and the information required to complete a successful assisted search.
