Register of Corrected Entries 1855-Present
Occasionally alterations had to be made to official birth, death or marriage certificates. This might be because of an error that had been discovered in the original record or because new information had come to light regarding the parentage of a child for example or a cause of death has been established after an inquest.
These corrections could not be made on the official record but were instead put in a Register of Corrected Entries kept by the registrar. If a correction has been made to an official record this is indicated in the left hand margin of the certificate. The index page should tell you if a correction has been made and give you a link to it.
The image below relates to the paternity of a child being settled and with the original certificate unable to be changed the new information was placed on an RCE like this.
