Library
The Library is located in the Dundas Room. It provides useful reference resources to aid your research.Library books
Books can be requested using the green slips that are available in each search room. Some library books, including the monumental inscriptions, are available in the Dundas Room but the majority are in store and are available on request.Print and fiche publications
— Birth, death and marriage records: transcripts and indexes — Census and population lists (mostly pre-1841) and Census name indexes (1841-1881) — Church histories, directories and registers: Baptist, Congregational, Episcopal Church of Scotland, Free Church of Scotland, Methodist, Presbyterian Churches; Quaker, Roman Catholic and Unitarian. — Directories (including Post Office directories for Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Leith, and Glasgow) — Emigration — Family and clan histories — Guides for Scottish, English and Irish family history. — Irregular Border marriages: transcripts and indexes — Military records :transcripts of muster rolls, militia lists and rolls of honour for the First and Second World Wars; and guides to sources and regiments. — Monumental inscriptions (for burial grounds throughout Scotland) — Names: forenames and surnames — Occupations — Places (gazetteers, maps and plans, and the four statistical accounts of Scotland) — Services of heirs — Tax records: transcripts of hearth tax (1691), poll tax (1696) and other tax lists. — University and school rolls — Wills and testamentsElectronic publications:
