Assisted Searches
If you are pressed for time, a little unsure how to go about searching for records, or not very comfortable using computers, why not book an assisted search with one of the ScotlandsPeople staff?
If you book an assisted search a member of staff will sit with you for up to two hours helping you navigate your way through the records and hopefully adding to your family tree.
They will be able to offer advice and make your search quicker and more comprehensive than if you had to do it yourself.
Assisted searches cost £20 per hour plus the £10 per day search fee.
To book an assisted search simply phone the Centre on
0131 314 4300
You will be asked to provide some background family details to find out whether your family records will be available at the Centre. Normally you will be asked to provide details of two people with a recorded event (Birth, Marriage, Death) within Scotland since 1855.Assisted searches will take place in the Dundas Room in New Register House.
There will be a maximum of two Assisted Searches per day beginning at 10:00 and 14:00. After the two-hour time period is up you are free to stay at your seat and continue your search alone but hopefully with some advice and hints fresh in your mind.
Look here for a full description of the Assisted Search service and the information required to complete a successful assisted search.
